How to Get Your Unique Student Identifier (USI)

3 min read

What is a USI?

The Unique Student Identifier (USI) is a reference number consisting of 10 letters and numbers. It creates an online record of your nationally recognized training and qualifications gained in Australia. It is free to create and yours for life.

Why is it Required for a White Card?

Under Australian law, a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) cannot issue a Statement of Attainment to a student unless they have a verified USI. This applies to the White Card (CPCWHS1001) course. Without a USI, you will not receive your certificate, and consequently, your physical card will not be processed by WorkSafe.

How to Create a USI

Creating a USI is a quick, 5-minute online process. You will need a valid form of Australian identification (such as a Driver's Licence, Medicare Card, or Passport). Simply visit the official government website at usi.gov.au, click "Create a USI", and follow the prompts. Be sure to bring this number with you to your training session.
