What is a White Card?

3 min read

Introduction to the White Card

A White Card, officially known as a general construction induction training card, is a mandatory requirement for anyone working on a construction site in Australia. The certification proves that you have completed the nationally recognized unit of competency CPCWHS1001 - Prepare to work safely in the construction industry.

Who Needs a White Card?

By law, a White Card is required for site managers, supervisors, surveyors, labourers, and tradespeople. Furthermore, anyone whose employment causes them to routinely enter operational construction zones must also hold this certification. The primary goal of the White Card is to ensure that everyone on site understands basic occupational health and safety laws, common site hazards, and incident response procedures.

How to Get Certified

To obtain a White Card, you must complete the accredited training course through a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) like ORBIT. In Victoria, WorkSafe strongly prefers face-to-face delivery to ensure a high standard of safety comprehension before you step onto a live worksite.
