Is My White Card Valid Interstate?

2 min read

National Recognition Framework

Yes, your White Card is nationally recognized. Thanks to the National Code of Practice for Induction for Construction Work, a White Card issued in any Australian state or territory is legally valid across the entire country. This means if you get your White Card in Victoria, you can use it to work on construction sites in New South Wales, Queensland, Western Australia, and elsewhere.

Important Exceptions

While the card itself is nationally recognized, local site managers and principal contractors reserve the right to enforce their own stricter policies. Some major tier-one construction companies may insist that your White Card was obtained via face-to-face training (which is standard in Victoria but not in WA). Therefore, holding a face-to-face Victorian card is considered the "gold standard" nationwide.

Old or Legacy Cards

If you hold an older style of induction card—such as the old Victorian "Red Card"—these are no longer issued but are generally still recognized in Victoria. However, they may not be recognized interstate. If you plan to travel for work, it is highly recommended to upgrade to the modern CPCWHS1001 White Card.
